AC Power reduce Battery Lifecycle - Myth OR Fact?

I would have to disagree with the others who say that it hurts your battery & reduces battery life by keeping your AC adapter plugged in with a full battery.

I have done extensive research and asked many apple and windows gurus and technicians, and have always come to the same conclusion. They all say to keep your laptop plugged into an power supply whenever possible. Only use your battery if you have to, in those times when you are not near a power supply.

Every time you use your batteries power you are adding to the amount of cycles your battery can cycle. If you continually charge your battery to 100% and then take it off the AC Power, and use it all the way down to 0% or even 50% you are taking away from the batteries lifespan. And eventually your battery will not be able to hold a full charge, and eventually will not hold a charge at all, and you will have to buy a new one!

Use your AC Power as much as you can, but remember to calibrate your battery at least once a month to maintain proper battery health.

Your battery life cycle will determine the health of your battery. Plugging it in will not harm your battery and reduce battery life. Having it unplug and running it down the re-charging will increase life cycle.. which results in reducing battery life.

Scenario 1
1) Charge Battery 100% then unplug connector until battery 90% before connecting it back to AC adaptor.
2) repeat step 1 nine more times which will mean, reduction of battery life by 10% each time.
-10% x 10 = -100% = 1 life cycle

Scenario 2
1) Charge Battery 100% then unplug connector until Battery 50% before connecting it back to AC adaptor.
2) repeat step 1 , 3 more times which will be a reduction of battery life by 50% each time.
-50% x 4 = -200% = 2 life cycle

I'd say, AC Power plug in with battery will reduce battery life is just another computer myth. The real fact is just how the users handling their charging but put the AC to the blame
